As any homeowner knows, things go wrong with your house, that is just part of life. However, as traditional American society goes, more often than not, the repairing of household "issues" is left up the men of this world. Well, being a single woman/mother, there is no man in this house, so the fixing of whatever breaks down is left entirely up to me. Aware that there are people our there that one can pay to fix whatever is wrong, the contents of my bank account do not usually coordinate with the fees of such services. Therefore, I "gotta figure it out" as I go along in life, and there have been times when my solution(s) have been a slight bit unconventional, but worked, at least for us. For instance, once upon a time the water leading to our ice maker was "messed" up and caused this sort of icy waterfall thing that encased my entire freezer. So, it was my thinking that I would just cut the little hose that fed the water into the back of the freezer and solve that problem with the click of a pair of scissors....Well, yes, what I didn't count on was the fact that once the hose was cut WATER WOULD CONTINUE TO FLOW , only this time onto my floor, not the freezer...Ooooops....In order to solve THAT problem I did know to cut the water off in the kitchen, underneath the sink, so I did that. A decision that led to another issue...THERE WAS NO WATER IN THE KITCHEN AT ALL !!! We live in an old house, a house that has been "uniquely updated" as the years have gone by, so there are parts to it that have been implanted in ways that although probably NOT up to today's standard of appropriate building codes ,can be worked with/around when problems arise. I was able to get the cold water running again, just not the hot, because somehow that part was directly connected to the water that fed the freezer....As everyone knows, one needs HOT water in the kitchen, especially when it comes to washing dishes. How did I solve that issue? We loaded up all of the dishes and put them in the bathtub. I would wash, my daughter would dry, and my son would stack.....Also, to help the time pass, I taught them the song "99 bottles of beer on the wall", which they loved. This process went on for about 2 weeks, then I was able to PAY someone to fix the problem. No, we still don't have an ice maker, but we can get into the tub without worrying about a fork finding its way to places that God did NOT intend for flatware to be go, it was made for the hands not the....well, you can figure out the rest of that statement ! No, we didn't bathe with our dishes, we just used the tub as a "very large sink", a statement I want to clear up in case anyone is wondering....lol...However, I will come clean, no pun intended, but there was ONE night that my children were gone and I was going out and as I stepped into the shower there were a few plates....Yes, I took the scrub brush and washed them, THEN myself, neither at the same time, but yeah, it did happen, just that one time !! There are so many other stories that I could share similar to this one, and perhaps I will later, but I just wanted you to know that....
According to Carrie....Sometimes things break, and you gotta do what you gotta do, regardless of how unusual the method may be !!!
Good luck to you and your endeavors, whatever they may be...
Until we meet again...
